DUI Defense

Los Angeles & Orange County DUI Defense Lawyer

Driving Under the Influence in California

DUI, or driving under the influence , also known commonly as Drunk Driving , is a criminal offense that is committed frequently in California. If you or a family member are arrested for DUI in Southern California, it is important that you call immediately to discuss your case with an experienced DUI defense attorney who will be able to protect your rights and interests. At the Law Offices of Paula Drake, you will find an attorney with extensive experience with DUI cases and their defenses.

DUI cases can be complicated. Not only are you faced with misdemeanor or felony criminal charges, but your driving privilege may be at stake as a result of an Administrative Action by the Department of Motor Vehicles and then also as a result of further DMV action taken as a result of a conviction for DUI. You need an attorney familiar with the DMV actions, the interaction between the court case and the DMV actions, and the know-how to handle the DMV Administrative Hearing. It is imperative that you contact DUI defense Attorney Paula Drake as soon as possible after the arrest, insofar as the DMV hearing must be scheduled within 10 days of the arrest in order for you to continue driving pending the outcome of the Administrative Hearing and in order for you to be able to fight the order of administrative suspension.

DUI cases can be further complicated by the existence of prior convictions, by a refusal to take the chemical test,  by the driver being under 21 at the time of the arrest, by the driver being a Juvenile, by the driving under the influence of drugs, by extremely high blood alcohol levels, by an accident (with injury, with property damage, with a hit and run allegation, etc.) or by other factors resulting in enhancements (e.g. speeding, children in the vehicle). Not only is your driving privilege at stake, but you could do substantial time in custody, pay high fines, attend lengthy alcohol programs, have an interlock device put on your vehicle, be put on a lengthy probation, among other consequences. No two DUI cases are alike; it takes an attorney with years of experience with DUI matters of all types to deal with the nuances of your particular case. Experience does count when fighting a DUI in California. Paula Drake has 25 years of experience behind her in dealing with the Courts and the DMV in every type of DUI case.
